Dior Christmas Gift Boxes

Last Christmas, I was approached by Dior to design a series of illustrated gift boxes for their seasonal gifting campaign.

The initial brief was simple but exciting: create bespoke illustrated concepts that could live on Dior Christmas gift boxes and be activated in-store. I presented several design directions - each rooted in elegance and was true to my art style.

To my delight, they loved the options so much that instead of selecting one, they chose four designs to bring to life.

From Concept to In-Store Activation

What began as a packaging design project evolved into something more experiential.

The illustrated boxes became part of a live, in-store activation across:

  • Sydney Flagship

  • Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne

  • Brisbane boutiques

Customers were able to have their gift boxes customised on-site, transforming a beautiful package into something personal and moment-specific. Watching guests choose their designs and see them illustrated live added another layer to the gifting ritual, it slowed the experience down in the most meaningful way.

More Than Packaging

What made this project particularly special was its timing.

With the recent appointment of Jonathan Anderson at Dior, a new era for the house was beginning, including a refreshed logo and evolving visual direction. This meant that the illustrated Christmas boxes became something more than seasonal packaging.

They became keepsakes.

Guests weren’t just receiving a Dior gift box - they were holding a piece of the house’s visual history. A moment between one chapter and the next.

The Role of Illustration in Luxury Gifting

Luxury gifting is about more than what sits inside the box. It’s about anticipation, presentation, and the feeling of being considered.

Hand illustration adds warmth to a globally recognised brand. It introduces texture and humanity into an otherwise structured retail environment. And when done live, it transforms packaging into performance - into memory.

For me, this project was about honouring craftsmanship at every level:

  • Thoughtful concept development

  • Hand-drawn detailing

  • In-store personalisation

  • Creating something designed to be kept

Because sometimes the box itself becomes the treasure.
